The First Mixed 4BBB: Golf, Nerves and a Little Family Pressure

The-First-Mixed-4BBB

What started this year as a new idea by the Ladies Golf Section has already given us a tournament full of competition, camaraderie and a few stories worth telling.

The inaugural Mixed 4BBB came to its finale on Saturday, 12th September, with the top pairs battling it out for the first-ever title.

In the championship match, Adah Munyendo & Ken Chege faced Noni Wanyee & David Owino, while Carol Jeptoo & Dan Lubanga took on Wambui Njenga & John Njenga for third place.

When the final putts dropped, it was Adah & Ken who made history as the inaugural Mixed 4BBB champions.

For Ken, the final came with something he wasn’t quite used to: a fan base.

Members came out to follow the finalists around the course, cheering them on and watching the action unfold hole by hole. Ken admitted it was the first time he had played golf with a “fan base” and described it as one of the tensest moments of his life on the course.

Thankfully, the extra eyes didn’t get in the way. Adah and Ken held their nerve and took home the title.

Then there was Carol and Dan.

Dan arrived at the Club convinced they had an 8:38am tee time. Their actual tee time? 12:20pm.

Carol’s family was also eager to come and follow her round, but Carol preferred to keep the pressure off. She’d rather deliver the results verbally afterwards than have the whole family watching every shot!

Noni took the opposite approach. She had her family supporting her hole to hole, with her partner even stepping in as her caddie. Now that’s commitment.

And then there were the Njengas.

Wambui and John, a couple who plays together, competes together and now finishes on the podium together. They secured third place because, really, third place is still better than “we almost made it.” 😂

The first Mixed 4BBB may be done, but the stories have only just begun.

Congratulations to Adah & Ken, and well done to everyone who took part.

One year down. A new LCC tradition in the making.

Until next year… and please, double-check your tee time. 😉
