There is something for everyone

Golf

Golf is the dominant sport at Limuru country club. Just 30 minutes from Nairobi city centre, Limuru’s eighteen hole course is widely regarded as the most scenic in Kenya with one of the best club house veranda views in all of Africa. At an altitude of seven thousand (7000) feet and set amidst the sprawling tea plantations and rolling farmlands, Limuru provides a unique hole-by-hole challenge for all members, visitors and guests.

The Limuru course played host to the Africa Amateur Golf Team Championship event in October 2015, the first time the event was held in East Africa.

Here is our course guide with hole-by-hole playing tips:Tour of the course.

Lawn Bowls

How about lawn bowls on our magnificent bowling green? The Game is played on a Bowling Green. The surface is generally grass but in some of the hotter, drier countries artificial surfaces are increasingly being used.

It does tend to have a crusty, “old people’s game” image due largely to the use of sponsors within the local communities. The reality is somewhat different and at our club level where the average player’s age is probably somewhere in the forties. Competitive bowling can be an exhausting game and in matches players are expected to perform for three to four hours without a break. During these games they can walk two or three miles and bend up and down about 100 times. It’s no wonder that bowlers traditionally suffer from both back and knee injuries. Add to that the concentration and effort required and you can see why we need a seat and a few beers after the match!

Cricket

The Cricket Pitch is Situated right next to the practice range and at the front of the Club House. It is the Only cricket pitch in East Africa that has a grass Wicket.

Cricket is the second most popular sport in Kenya. Kenya has competed in the Cricket World Cup since 1996. They upset some of the World’s best teams and reached semi-finals of the 2003 tournament. They also won the inaugural World Cricket League Division 1 hosted in Nairobi and participated in the World T20.

Swimming

Enjoy our pool with service from the club house served directly to the pool area.

On weekends and holidays, take time out around the pool area with family and friends. Bring the kids along as you enjoy a lazy afternoon chatting away, or taking a walk along the walking/jogging track or participating in any of the other sports. You could also book the pool area for kids birthdays and other celebrations in a safe and secure environment.

Tennis

The Club has 2 murram tennis courts. Currently, the club is in the process of bringing back to life the continued use of the Tennis Courts.  We will begin to offer tennis lessons, clinics and workshops meant to promote the game of tennis. The courts are manned by a court attendant who will assist members as they enjoy the game.

Squash

Limuru Country Club has one squash court, opened in the 70’s.  Over the years, the court has not been utilised fully.  We intend to relaunch the courts and begin to offer coaching lessons by a resident coach. The club encourages those who want to play competitively to invite a spurring partner.
